A Regina police officer had to use a taser to bring a suspect into custody Friday night.

Police say around 8:40, they conducted a traffic stop on the 6400 block of 7th Avenue North and discovered the man behind the wheel was arrestable for criminal code offences.

Once he was told he was being arrested, he tried to flee and resisted apprehension resulting in the member believing serious bodily harm or worse could occur prompting the need for the taser to be used.

The man was safely taken into custody and checked over by EMS at the scene before being transported to the police station.

An investigation continues.
