Regina man faces 35 charges after emergency teams called out Sunday morning

A 32-year-old Regina man made his first court appearance Monday morning after a string of events on the weekend that ended with his arrest Sunday morning when the SWAT team was needed.

Regina police say around 2:50 a.m on Saturday morning, they were called to a business on the 4100 block of 5th Avenue for a report of a firearms offence.  The victims told police that a man approached them as they sat inside a car and pointed a firearm at them before shooting one of the vehicle’s tires and taking a cellphone from inside the car.

Police got a description of the suspect and learned he was also the subject of various outstanding warrants.

On Sunday morning around 12:40 a.m, police were sent to Rose and 11th in downtown Regina after a report of a man with a shotgun who had gotten into the vehicle of a female acquaintance and allegedly made threats to the victim’s life and another man who wasn’t present before fleeing in a cab.

This led to crisis negotiators, the SWAT team and the canine unit establishing a perimeter around a home on the 2200 block of Osler where a man and woman were eventually taken into custody without incident.
