Ottawa extends CERB program by eight more weeks while extending U.S border closure until at least July 21st

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he’s encouraged that some parts of the economy, but adds there’s still a long way to go for people who lost their jobs due to the pandemic.

At his morning briefing, Trudeau says the Canada Emergency Response Benefit is being extended for those who need it by eight weeks.

“So if you’ve been getting the CERB and still cannot work because you’re unable to find a job, or it’s just not possible you will keep getting that $2,000 a month,” Trudeau said.

The Prime Minister also said  the Canada-U.S border will remain closed to all but essential service travel for another 30 days, until July 21st.
