Saying it is an exciting day for competitive amateur golfers across the province, Golf Saskatchewan says it will host eight provincial championships this summer.
The decision to do so comes because the competitions will safely follow COVID-19 guidelines laid out by the province when it comes to the sport and what can and can not be done.
Executive Director Brian Lee says the events may have a different feel from previous championships, however it will still be a chance to get out and compete against other golfers in a competitive, safe format.
The first provincial event will be the Womens Amateur, which will run at the Willows Golf and Country Club in Saskatoon from July 9-11.
While going ahead with a majority of events, it has been decided the Women’s Rosebowl and Mixed Championship will not be held due to the fact they have shotgun start formats and a banquet for competitors with the hope being those tournaments can return to the calendar in 2021.
The provincial schedule is as follows:
•102nd Saskatchewan Women’s Amateur Championship (Willows Golf and Country Club) – Saskatoon, July 9 – 11.
•94th Junior Boy’s/70th Junior Girl’s (Elmwood Golf Club) – Swift Current, July 14 – 16
•109th Men’s Amateur/34th Mid-Amateur Championships (The Legends Golf Club) – Warman, July 21-24.
•101st Senior Men’s Championship/Mid-Masters/57th Senior Women’s Championships (Cooke Municipal Golf Course) – Prince Albert, July 28 – 30.
