Number 1’s at 1 – June 17

Coming up on today’s edition of Number 1’s at 1:

Emmylou Harris will kick start the show in style today. She reached number one on June 17th, 1978 with “Two More Bottles of Wine.”

Willie Nelson started his second week of an 11 week ride at number 1 on the Billboard country albums chart on this day in 1978 with “Stardust.” It contained the hits “Georgia on my Mind,” which would get him a Grammy Award and “Blue Skies,” which would go to number one in September of 1978.

Earl Thomas Conley landed his 18th and final number one on this day in 1989 with “Love Out Loud.” We lost E.T. Conley in April of 2019 at age 77.

Russell Smith was born on this day 1949. He was best known as the lead singer of of the Amazing Rhythm Aces, which took “Third Rate Romance” to number one in Canada in the 1975. He also wrote and co-wrote several number ones for other artists including “Keep it Between the Lines” for Ricky Van Shelton. Smith passed away in July of 2019.

Chad Brock landed his first and only number one to date on this day in 2000 with “Yes.” It stayed at the top for three weeks.

One year ago this week Tim Hicks was enjoying the top spot on the Canadian country chart with “What a Song Should Do.”

Kenny Chesney started a five week ride at number one on this day in 2006 with a huge song. “Summertime” would be his 10th number 1 single and would stay at the top until July 22nd. Brad Paisley’s “The World” would take over the number one spot for three weeks.
