Regina’s crime numbers significantly lower than this time a year ago.

Whether or not it is COVID-19 related is not known, but crime numbers from Regina Police this past May show a big dip compared to the same time one year ago.
There were over 1,600 fewer calls at the end of May 2020, than there were in May 2019, resulting in a drop of 23.9 percent in the city’s overall crime rate.
Large declines were seen in auto thefts (45.5 percent), property crime dropped to 820 calls compared to almost 1,400 in May of 2019, and theft under $5,000 dropped by 841 calls.
With more people working at home, the numbers show business break and enters are up 16 percent, but residential ones are down by over nine percent.
Crimes against people were recorded at 211, down from 261 a year ago, while mischief calls were down over 22 percent.
