U of R launches new five year strategic plan

A new five year strategic plan has been launched by the University of Regina that will take the school to 2025.

The plan includes five main areas of focus.

Discovery, truth and reconciliation , well-being and belonging, environment and climate action and impact and identity.

Interim President and Vice Chancellor Dr. Thomas Chase, said new to this plan are a larger focus on truth and reconciliation discovery.

“The future of this province is very much bound up with Indigenous peoples and our settler needs to reconcile and decolonize, I think you’l see that reflected throughout the plan,” Chase said.

“Getting students outside the classroom as well as in it, actually hands-on learning of various kinds, and on the production of new knowledge, it’s a very important aspect of university life, we don’t repeat things we try and learn and discover new things,” Chase added.

Chase says the plan was written and approved before COVID-19 took over, and says it will be a guide line for the university moving on from the pandemic.

‘Therefore moving forward from this point it will become our central guiding document and be the framework and the guiding operations of the university for the next five years.”
