Latest crop report says many Sask farmers would welcome more rain

The latest Saskatchewan agriculture crop report says farmers are busy spraying for weeds and insects.

Most of the province received some rain this past week.

Gouldtown in the southwest had the highest amount at 74 millimeters or almost 3 inches.

The crop report says most farmers would welcome more rain, but some fields have been saturated.

Cropland topsoil moisture is rated two percent surplus, 69 percent adequate, 22 percent short and seven percent very short.

Haying in east-central and southern regions will be affected by dry weather.

Crop development is around normal, although more of the oilseeds are behind normal development for this time of year.

Crop damage came from flea beetles in most regions of the province.

Other causes of crop loss and forced some farmers to reseed include wind, dry conditions, insects and hail.
