Premier Scott Moe says the date for re-opening places like bingo halls, casinos and indoor pools will be coming next week.
Moe says while there has been some challenges, he is happy with the way the Re-Open Saskatchewan plan has been going and he hopes that success continues.
If it is to continue, he is reminding people that they can’t let their guard down and that they must continue to do things to stay safe.
He had an analogy for what we must do.
“When I go out fishing on one of our beautiful lakes in Saskatchewan, I am never scared when on my boat, but I always wear a life-jacket to play it safe, just in case.” Moe said.”
He knows people are looking at the low numbers Saskatchewan is seeing and are wondering why the province doesn’t accelerate things instead of staying on the slow, methodical course that they have been. Moe says all you have to do is look at what is happening in some American states to see that the virus hasn’t gone away and can come back at any time if the proper measures aren’t taken. He says no one should feel worried or scared about going out, but to be safe and do the things you need to in order to ensure that.
Provincial chief medical health officer Dr. Saqib Shahab echoes the thoughts of Saskatchewan’s top politician. Shahab says recent surges in numbers are happening because of outbreaks and that the need to keep doing what we have been doing since March to keep numbers low must continue.
“While we have had a high number of cases over the last few weeks, the fact that they are linked together in localized geographies are re-assurances that they are localized outbreaks.” Shahab said during the government’s daily briefing on Thursday. “Having said that, every outbreak is a reminder that COVID is around and can come back very quickly.”
Moe also announced during Thursday’s briefing that the state of emergency we have been under since March will last for at least another two weeks until July 8.
