“Clare’s Law” comes into force in Saskatchewan Monday.
The law authorizes police forces in the province to disclose risk information related to a person’s violent or abusive past to intimate partners whose safety may be at risk.
Saskatchewan is the first jurisdiction to enact “Clare’s Law,” which allows applicants who believe they may be at risk from an intimate partner and to people identified by police to be at risk.

However, the Saskatchewan RCMP will not be participating, saying they are subject to federal privacy laws that don’t allow for this type of disclosure.
Justice minister Don Morgan has written a letter to federal public safety minister Bill Blair on the matter, calling on the RCMP to take part.
