Paddock hopes to find player to complement Connor Bedard at CHL Import Draft

The Canadian Hockey League holds its import draft on Tuesday with the Regina Pats looking to make one selection in the two round draft as they have the 15th pick overall.

While the team is picking 15th, it is believed they will pick higher than that as teams ahead of them will be passing due to the fact they are at their quotient if import players.   The Pats would make two selections if they decide to move 19-year-old defenceman Nikita Sedov and they likely would have passed had last year’s selection, 17 year old Danill Gushchin, come to Regina last season but he did not.

Pats GM John Paddock says there are many options on the table when it comes to what they will do when it comes time for their pick to be made.

“Our probable preference is a forward, but if it happens you don’t know.” Paddock said. “We could go with an older forward that could help Connor (15-year-old Connor Bedard) or we could go with a younger player who will develop with him and be here for a few years.”

In the past few years, the draft has seen some success for the Pats with players like Sergei Zborovskiy, Filip Ahl and Emil Oksanen being selected.
