Question Period debate centres around potential second session before fall election

The provincial NDP continue to bring up concerns over the 2020-21 provincial budget.

Opposition leader Ryan Meili says during this 14-day session, the Sask. Party government has not provided any details to the 200 million dollar contingency fund.

Meili said the premier doesn’t seem to be taking this session seriously because the entire budget is a rehashing of the one put forward in March.

“And that’s why I’ve written to him (Tuesday) about a return in September to get a real budget (…) so that we can have a full accounting of the $200 million contingency fund, and so that we can finally see the projections for revenue and expenditure that this government has chosen to hide.”

Premier Scott Moe said the opposition leader’s request is just asking for a do-over for the session.

“There’s going to be no do-over here,” Moe said. “We have achieved through this session what we set out to achieve, we have passed the legislation that’s been in the House, we have introduced –and very shortly — we will be passing a budget (…) on behalf of this province, the first provincial budget, or national budget, passed post-COVID in the nation of Canada.”

Instead, Moe said a much larger debate will be had across the province when the provincial election is held on October 26th.
