The Government of Saskatchewan has announced a female inmate from the Pine Grove Correctional Centre passed away at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon on Wednesday night.

Officials say she was pronounced deceased at approximately 8:00 p.m.

The Prince Albert Police Service is investigating the situation and the Ministry of Corrections and Policing will be conducting an internal investigation. According to a release from the government, the death is not related to COVID-19.

Next of kin have been notified and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service is involved in the investigation.
