The Office of Residential Tenancies will start accepting eviction applications for non-payment of rent from landlords on August 4th.
Applications will need to be sent by email or by mail, and in-person services will not be offered.
“When the pandemic began, we wanted to ensure tenants facing hardship as a result of COVID-19 were able to take the necessary social-distancing measures,” Justice Minister and Attorney General Don Morgan said in a news release. “With the success of flattening the curve in Saskatchewan, we believe it’s appropriate to lift the moratorium on non-urgent evictions.”
While evictions will be allowed, the ORT is still encouraging landlords and tenants to communicate with each other about their situation at hand to come up with a payment plan or other mutual agreement.
Eviction applications were suspended in late March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
