Number 1’s at 1 – July 13

I”ll be filling in for Colin Lovequist for the next two weeks on Number 1’s at 1! Here’s what you can expect on today’s show:

Olivia Newton – John had the number 1 album on this day in 1974 with “If You Love Me, Let me Know.” It would stay at number 1 on the country albums chart for five weeks that year. The title track only reached number 2 in the US, but Canadians loved it and it shot to number 1 in June of 1974 for two weeks in Canada.

Merle Haggard had the number 1 song with “Movin’ On” this week in 1975. The song was written and performed for the 1974-76 NBC series “Movin’ On.”

Charley Pride was enjoying a one week ride at number one this week back in 1980 with an old Hank Williams Sr. song. “”You Win Again” would be Pride’s 24th number 1.

Earl Thomas Conley was enjoying a one week ride at number 1 on this day in 1981 with his first career chart topper titled “Fire and Smoke.” It would be later named the number one song of 1981.

Heading back to 1985, Willie Nelson landed is 10th number one on July 13th of that year with “Forgiving You Was Easy.” It came from his 32nd studio album, Me and Paul.”

Shania Twain landed her third consecutive number one on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart on this day in 1996 with a song that was featured in the “Twister” movie soundtrack. “No One Needs to Know Right Now.” would stay at number 1 for one week.

On the Canadian charts, Duane Steele was number 1 this week back in 1996 with his first and only number 1 “Anita Got Married.”
