Reports from Edmonton are pointing towards a name change for the Edmonton Eskimos.

The CFL team has faced pressure from at least two major sponsors to change their name in recent weeks.

Sources say an internal decision was made Thursday, with an official announcement coming as early as next week.

Edmonton’s CFL franchise has been named the ‘Eskimos’ since its inception in 1949, winning 14 Grey Cups.

The franchise reportedly trademarked the name ‘Empire’ in 2018.
