The heat Saskatchewan is known for will be back for a couple of days starting Wednesday afternoon.

Environment Canada has issued heat warnings for much of the province, including Moose Jaw, Swift Current, and Prince Albert.

Lead forecaster for Environment Canada Brad Vrolijk said humidity won’t be a major concern for the Regina area Wednesday, but possibly later this week.

“As we head forward into the week, we should see more humid conditions push into the southeastern part of the province (Thursday), so in addition to being high’s in the low 30’s, we’ll also see dew points climbing up to 19-20°C, which will produce humidex values closer to 37-38°C probably (Thursday) afternoon.”

Vrolijk said there’s a possibility of thunderstorms Wednesday because of the heat, but those chances are a lot higher Thursday.

“On Thursday afternoon, it looks like there’s a pretty good chance of thunderstorm development across all of southeastern Saskatchewan,” Vrolijk said. “Some of those thunderstorms may be severe as well, so for Thursday afternoon, it’s definitely worth keeping an eye out to see what might happen.”

Vrolijk also provided some tips for working outside during the heat wave.

“Things like carrying a water bottle with you and making sure you’re hydrated through the day,” Vrolijk said. “Wearing a hat can help, if you;re able to, take frequent breaks in the shade, or even avoid being outside during the hottest part of the day if you can.”

Temperatures are expected to return to a summer time normal for the weekend.
