It is the news many 24-year-old university football players in Canada were hoping for.
On Monday, USports announced it is a reversing a decision, which would have called for close to 300 players across the country to lose their fifth and final season because of their age, as they will now be allowed to play in 2021.
“After discussions with our membership, we have determined that it’s an appropriate time to explore ways to improve the current safety and participation policies in football with an anticipated completion date of February 2021,” said Dick White, interim CEO for U Sports which is the governing body for university athletics in Canada.
When the move was announced, it was met with a tremendous amount of negativism across the country with many schools letting the national body know of their displeasure.
