Regina ready to host KrugoFest; a rooftop concert series benefiting the food bank

One of Canada’s most unique and diverse concert series is coming to Regina in August.

KrugoFest presented by Jump.ca will be a rooftop concert series on top of the parkade of the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel, with benefits going to the Regina Food Bank.

Jess Moskaluke, who will be taking the stage August 6 was announced as a performer on 620 CKRM Monday morning. Corb Lund will take the stage on August 8 and The Sheepdogs will perform August 14 and 15.

Concert goers will have a unique viewing experience, taking in the shows from their own rooms on the north side of the hotel, with a private balcony that overlooks the rooftop stage.

Kirk Morrison, CEO of Krugo, said tickets will pay for four people to be in one hotel room to enjoy a show, along with hotel stay and food, while following public health measures for COVID-19.

Safety will be prioritized with a staggered arrival and departure of guests, mandatory PPE  which will be provided for all guests when outside their room, enforcement of physical distancing and enhanced cleaning. Guests will be asked to not visit other rooms or mingle in shared spaces.

There will also be contactless check-in and screening questionnaires for guests upon arrival.

For Morrison, he said it was important to give a unique live experience with COVID-19 being the reason many shows have been cancelled or rescheduled this year in the province.

“We knew there are several large events that were cancelled this year that people look forward to every year. So we tried really hard to figure out how we could get artists from different genres involved so we could offer something for everyone at the event,” shared Morrison.

Like many others, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on the food bank and food security for thousands in and around Regina. More than 13,000 families will rely on the food bank this month alone, an increase of over 60 per cent from 2019.

The goal of KrugoFest is to provide more than 200,000 meals for those need with the hope of raising $50,000 to $75,000.

David Froh, vice president of community of the Regina Food Bank, said this is a lifeline to allow them to feed those in need within the community.

“There are a lot of people hurting in this town. In June, we fed over double the people we fed last year and about 40 per cent of our clients are children,” explained Froh.

“Food and music are the ultimate connectors. We are inspired by Krugo and by the sponsors that have made this unprecedented event possible.”
