Sask-based company set-up to turn waste flax straw into fuel for power plants

A Regina-based company has been set up to turn waste flax straw into an energy source for the world.

Prairie Clean Energy C.E.O. Mark Cooper says there is a thriving market for selling flax straw as a biomass fuel for power plants.

He says a series of town hall meetings are being held this week to buy baled straw by the ton.

Cooper says his company will pay from 15 to 22 dollars a ton for waste flax straw.

Town hall meetings are set for Yorkton Wednesday and Regina Thursday.

Farmers are asked to pre-register on the Prairie Clean Energy website for social distancing to restrict crowd size to 30.
