RCMP make arrests in Unity child abduction that almost leads to Amber Alert

Two men are facing charges in relation to a child abduction incident that nearly led to an Amber Alert being issued in Unity.

On Tuesday night at about 5:00 PM, RCMP were called to a home for a report of a possible parental abduction. Officers learned about three children who were reportedly taken by their father’s brother in a truck.

Officers became worried about the children’s safety as the investigation started to unfold, which caused RCMP to start the process of issuing an Amber Alert.

However, before the Alert was issued, the suspect truck was located and stopped by officers south of Kyle. The father and brother were arrested and the three children were located safely in a Maidstone home.

The suspects names are not being released to protect the privacy of the children. But both men are facing several charges including break and enter, assault, and abduction.

Both suspects appear in court on August 6th in Swift Current.
