Regina police charge man with attempted murder of young girl

The Regina Police Service has charged a 24-year-old man with attempted murder after a seven-year-old girl was hospitalized over the weekend.

On Saturday, police were sent at 4:26 a.m. to the area of Brotherton Avenue and Cavendish Street for a call after a taxi driver saw a young girl was bleeding from the head outside a business. The driver did not notice any adults accompanying the child, who was without shoes or a jacket.

The cab driver gave the young girl shelter until police arrived to the scene. She was taken to hospital by paramedics for her injuries; RPS anticipates she will make a full recovery.

At the scene, officers determined the child lives on the 0-99 block of Cavendish Street, which prompted police to visit the residence in question. Upon arrival, patrol members saw a man trying to leave the home.

Police managed to arrest the individual and charge him in connection with the incident. RPS noted that the suspect is not a stranger to the victim or the victim’s family and is alleged to be in violation of a court order prohibiting contact with the residents at that address.

24-year-old Greg Joshua Brittain of Regina has been charged with attempted murder and failure to comply. He appeared in court on Monday morning.
