Saskatchewan Polytechnic will be launching two new Indigenous courses they say will provide culturally relevant training.
Paul Carter, Dean of Joseph A. Remai School of Construction says the first will be an online Indigenous Studies course and will give students an introduction to Indigenous culture in Saskatchewan. He explains the course will look at the colonization of Indigenous people and will look at current issues.
The second course is called “Colonization to Resilience”. Carter says it will look at the history of Indigenous people in Canada and transition into the present day resilience of Indigenous leaders.
Meaning, the course will focus on positive examples and success stories of Indigenous leaders around the country.
Carter says the courses will be available to anyone who is interested in taking them.
He says Sask Polytech’s goal is to help Indigenous people see themselves reflected in the institution and in their post-secondary community.
Applications for both courses will be out soon, and will be offered this coming Fall.
The Indigenous Studies course will be a non-credit course and will take approximately 15 hours to complete. It will be offered online for $52.50 and attendees will receive a statement of attenedance from Sask Polytech.
The Colonization to Resilence course will be offered online for free and will take approximately 4 hours to complete.
