CRA investigating after thousands of accounts breached by cyberattacks

It’s going to be a few more days before the Canada Revenue Agency restores its online services.

CRA assistant commissioner Annette Butikofer says the system was shut down on the weekend after cyber security officials detected a third hacking attempt since last Tuesday.

Officials say hackers took advantage of a vulnerability in the agency’s software that has since been fixed.

But they are pointing out that the accounts were hacked because account holders had already had their identifying information stolen somewhere else.
