NDP continues to criticize province’s back-to-school plan

The NDP continues to attack the government’s back-to-school plan.

Education critic Carla Beck wants Premier Moe to take responsibility for what the opposition says is a failed plan and take real action to address class size.

Beck says Moe has called on teachers, parents and children to take responsibility for their own safety while taking no responsibility himself for the chaos caused by the government. She adds the medical consensus is clear and that is smaller class sizes are necessary in both urban and rural schools.

She adds there are some classes which will conflict with the provincial public health order calling for less than 30 people in an indoor gathering.

While making an announcement last weekend that the start of the school year has been delayed to September 8, Moe said COVID-19 testing in the province will increase, and there will be a COVID testing plan specifically for schools, with “voluntary testing right in the schools” for students and staff.

“As a father, I know what it means to want to take every step possible to protect my kids,” Moe said in a video on his Facebook page,  which was posted Saturday.
