Province adds more funding for return to school plan and releases details for individual schools

With much uncertainty of how well Saskatchewan’s plan to return kids to the classroom will go on September 8th still circulating, the province has announced that more money will be available to school divisions after receiving $79.4-million from the federal government.

The province says this money is on top of the $40-million in new education funding already committed by Saskatchewan earlier this month.

Application intakes will take place throughout the school year, with the first intake closes on Thursday.

Parents and caregivers also now have detailed information available for their child’s local school.

Copies of each specific school’s plan will be made available through each division website, with information posted by the end of the day Wednesday.

Information regarding testing for the education sector, including COVID-19 case reporting and notification will be distributed to parents on Thursday.

“As we work with our sector partners to ensure a safe return to school, we know that there will be increased costs associated with staffing, preparation and supplies,” Education Minister Gordon Wyant said in a news release. “With the federal government’s contribution, there is now up to $150-million available to our education sector for costs associated with a safe return to school.”
