Sask farmers file six thousand hail claims so far this season

Summer storms have resulted in more than 10 thousand prairie farm claims for crop damage from hail.

Canadian Crop Hail Association president Rick Omelchenko says Saskatchewan hail damage claims total 6 thousand, about normal so far this season.

He says hail stones range in size from pea to tennis ball and crop damage is from light to severe.

So far, he says about 70 percent of the claims have been processed.

He says there have been more sporadic storms this year unlike other years where hail cut a wide path across a large area.

Omelchenko says hail claims in Alberta are above normal at 27 hundred and below normal in Manitoba at 12 hundred so far this season.
