A 62-year-old man from the Carry the Kettle First Nation was declared dead at the scene after a minivan he was driving was hit by a semi early Saturday morning.

The accident happened five kilometers east of Indian Head on the Trans-Canada highway with RCMP saying the minivan was entering the highway when the accident happened.

Two people were in the semi, but neither was hurt.

The accident happened around 12:40 a.m and resulted in a section of road being closed for a few hours while investigators did their work.
