Fired RPS officer appealing

A member of the Regina Police Service who was fired in August is appealing.

Colin Magee’s lawyer, Aaron Fox, has indicated his client will be seeking to be reinstated.

Magee, who had been with RPS for 18 years, was charged with two counts of common assault in April 2019 in connection with separate incidents that occurred in the police station’s detention cells in September of 2018. He pleaded guilty to the charge in the incident which involved a 13-year-old boy, but he was found not guilty in the second incident that involved a 43-year-old man.  He had also been charged with an assault that occurred in December 2016, but that charge was withdrawn after mediation occurred.

Under the Saskatchewan Police Act, officers have 30 days to file an appeal after they are dismissed.  It is not known on what grounds Magee will be appealing.
