Over 800 hail claims made so far in September

More than 800 crop damage hail claims have been made across the prairies in the first week of September.

The president of the Canadian Crop Hail Association, Rick Omelchenko, says more than 2 dozen Saskatchewan communities have been hit by hailstorms in the first week of this month.

“Right now, the hail storms are pea-sized storms that came through, pea-sized hail, that resulted in really heavy damage because the crops are quite advanced and quite ripe,” said Omelchenko.

Omelchenko says communities affected by hail storms the first week of September include Prince Albert, Kipling, Biggar, Plenty, Yorkton, Swift Current , Davidson and Watrous.
