Some big news for football not only in Saskatchewan, but in Canada is coming out of the Saskatoon Hilltops program.
The team has announced Emmarae Dale is joining the squad making her the first female football player to be placed on their roster.
The linebacker has played four four years with the Saskatoon Valkyries, winning two championships.
Dale was on the SportsCage Tuesday and says the Hilltops approached her with the idea.
It was not something on her radar at the time, but at the same time now an opportunity Dale was going to pass up.
Aside from it being a new challenge, Dale says it’s also an opportunity to open the door for female football players in the future.
“I hope it shows other girls that they are capable of doing anything like this, and that it gives them the confidence to maybe go out and put themselves out there out of their comfort level and just know that anything is possible if you put your mind to it and stay consistent,” Dale said.
With the 2020 CJFL season cancelled, Dale is currently practicing with the Hilltops twice a week and hopes to be ready for the 2021 season.
