Saskatchewan Equine Expo Moving to October 2021

The largest horse show in the province will become a late fall event rather than one on the winter schedule.

Saskatchewan Equine Expo has been held during the Family Day long weekend in February. The organizing committee—which includes Saskatoon Prairieland Park, the Saskatchewan Horse Federation and the Western College of Veterinary Medicine—decided 2021 was the perfect year to wait and host the event in late October.

“We discussed this several times over the last couple of years and this change was not made specifically because of COVID,” said Lori Cates, agriculture manager at Prairieland Park. “We felt it was time to change the program a little bit. There will be some of the same things with some new components.”

All previous events will return including the popular Trainer Challenge, industry trade show and educational seminars.

Cates says it will be easier for horses coming off the summer show circuit, the weather is usually better in October and the trade show should benefit from the pre-Christmas buying period. The four day event attracts more than 10,000 horse enthusiasts from the three Prairie provinces.

The 10th annual Saskatchewan Equine Expo will be held at Saskatoon Prairieland Park from October 28-31, 2021.
