Yorkton RCMP temporarily closes detachment after police officer tests positive for COVID-19

The Yorkton RCMP detachment has temporarily closed its doors to the public for non-emergency matters after an officer tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday. The closure is in effect for two weeks starting on Monday until October 12.

Yorkton RCMP say the officer has since begun self-isolating and will continue to follow direction from the Saskatchewan Health Authority until they are cleared by local health authorities.

Since the positive test result, 14 officers and six civilian employees of the Yorkton detachment are currently under mandatory self-isolation and are being tested for COVID-19.

Yorkton RCMP will continue to answer all phone calls from the public during their temporary closure. Employees will also be continuing thorough sanitization and disinfecting protocols for the facility, police vehicles and other areas.

The decision to close the detachment was made in consultation with the SHA.

More to come.
