Elections Saskatchewan ready for unique 2020 provincial election

Elections Saskatchewan is remaining confident in their plan for the election coming up later this month.

Chief Electoral Officer Michael Boda says advanced polls will be open from October 20th to the 24th from 12:00 until 8:00 PM each day, and mail-in voting will be more widely available.

Still, Boda says he expects a busy day on election day.

“On election day, more than 1,800 polling locations will be open for voting 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM,” Boda said. “We have increased our advanced voting locations to allow for that physical distancing, we’re doing the exact same thing for election day locations.”

Boda says the health of in-person voters is a top priority.

“They (voters) just have to be certain that those polls will be safe, and that is why we have been working so closely with (Chief Medical Health Officer) Dr. (Saqib) Shahab with respect to every detail and making sure that our standard is as high as going to your local grocery store and higher.”

Boda says those wanting to take part in mail-in voting are encouraged to contact Elections Saskatchewan right away.

“Elections Saskatchewan needs to receive your application at our head office by October 15, and you can do this online, download a hardcopy application and send it, or just call us, and we will send one out to you.”

Boda says with Elections Saskatchewan’s current set-up, they could take up to 40 percent of ballots through mail-in ballot if needed.
