Regina man facing weapons charges after Wednesday night incident

A Regina man is facing several weapons charges after an incident Wednesday.

At approximately 6:30 pm, RPS responded to an area just outside the Pasqua Hospital on the 4100 block of Dewdney Avenue. The report cited a man who had been standing outside the building for hours and was acting erratically. More concerning was the sight of what appeared to be a sawed-off long gun in the man’s backpack.

Police arrived and arrested the man without incident. Officers saw the modified handle of a firearm protruding from the man’s backpack. A search of the backpack found several rounds of .22 calibre ammo, a loaded sawed-off .22 calibre rifle, and a quality of what is believed to be meth.

49-year-old Leagh Thomas Kirklon has been charged with the possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, 2 counts of a firearm or ammo contrary to prohibition, unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to public peace, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a loaded firearm, and possession of meth.

Kirklon made his first court appearance Thursday morning.
