CN continuing to move large amounts of grain

Canadian grain exports are booming.

The director of sales and marketing at CN Rail, David Przednowek says his railway has moved a significant larger amount of grain since August first compared to last year at the same time.

“For the first two months of the 2020-2021 crop year, CN moved 5.06 million tonnes of grain and processed grain products out of western Canada via carload, compared to 3.92 at the same time last year and the three year average of 4.08,” said Przednowek. “The previous best was 4.36 million tonnes back in 2014.”

Przednowek says there has been strong demand for grain movement this fall and an early harvest has enabled farmers to take advantage of railway capacity.

He says a train derailment in September on the main line near Hope, B.C. caused grain movement delays for four days.
