Saskatoon civic election postponed until Friday

Saskatoon’s municipal election has been postponed with polls closing Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Returning Officer Scott Bastian says Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m will be the date when the polls open again. He explained the reasons for delaying until Friday as not wanting residents to have to go out onto the streets again if they are not in great condition.

Bastian adds they want to respect the Remembrance Day statutory holiday on Wednesday and provide enough time to coordinate the logistics, people and equipment between now and Friday.

He says it’s certainly unconventional and appreciates the frustration of many of our citizens have felt about not knowing the options they had to vote, which is why the city continued to encourage people to go to the polls on Monday.

Bastian explains they needed to be sure they were in full compliance with the Minister’s Order in order to work through this difficult situation.

There will be a condensed number of locations on Monday available for voters much like advanced polls. They are located at Cosmo Civic Centre, Lawson Civic Centre, Lakewood Civic Centre, Shaw Centre, and City Hall.

Mail-in ballots will be received by the election office until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13.
