Swift Current gets new mayor

People in Swift Current had to wait for a couple of days to vote for a new mayor and council as they were unable to do so on Monday because of the blizzard that roared through.   They went to the polls on Thursday and when the votes were counted, a new mayor had been chosen.

Al Bridal, a local construction business owner, takes over as mayor replacing Denis Perrault in what was a close vote as he took 2,497 votes to Perrault’s 1,900. Perrault was hoping to become a two-term mayor.

Swift Current was not the only Saskatchewan city that had to delay election day.  People in Saskatoon go to the polls today as a decision was made after voting started to stop it because of problems for people getting around because of the huge snowfall the city received.
