Alberta man charged after 17 kg of drugs found near Battleford

At approximately 11:30 a.m. on December 7, 2020, a concerned citizen reported an erratic driver to the North Battleford RCMP. Officers located the SUV and initiated a traffic stop just west of Battleford on Highway #16.

On Monday at approximately 11:30 am, a concerned citizen reported an erratic driver to the North Battleford RCMP. Officers located the SUV and initiated a traffic stop just west of Battleford on Highway #16.

The lone male driver was arrested without incident. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, police seized approximately 15 kg of suspected methamphetamine, approximately 1 kg of suspected cocaine, approximately 1 kg of an unidentified substance (believed to be a controlled substance) that has been sent for further testing, small amounts of suspected fentanyl, a quantity of Canadian currency.

The quantity of methamphetamine could be broken down into approximately 150,000 individual doses and the quantity of cocaine could be broken down into approximately 1,000 individual doses.

As a result of the overall investigation completed by North Battleford RCMP, 36-year-old Lowen Diehl from the Penhold/Edmonton area has been charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of fentanyl, possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, and 2 counts of breach of a release order.
