SaskPower reaches two solar deals with First Nations power projects

SaskPower has entered two power purchase agreements with First Nations solar projects.

The Awasis and Pesâkâstêw solar projects will be located near Weyburn and Regina, and will supply 10-megawatts of power each to the grid.

The power would be enough to supply over 5,000 homes.

In a news release, Minister Responsible for SaskPower Don Morgan says these solar projects will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent.

The two solar projects were brought forward by the First Nations Power Authority, which is North America’s only non-profit, Indigenous owned and operated organization that develops power projects with Indigenous communities.
