Two members of the Saskatchewan Roughriders who spent years with the football team have died.
Steve Molnar played from 1969 to 1978 and spent a majority of his career as the backup to the great George Reed. During his career, he ran for 2,549 yards, including a career-high 822 yards in 1976, and 20 touchdowns. He also caught 142 passes for 1,552 yards and two touchdowns. The Saskatoon native was 73.
Bruce Bennett, who is in the Riders Plaza of Honor, played with the green-and-white from 1966 to 1972. His 35 interceptions are third-most in team history. One of those interceptions was a 112-yard return for a touchdown in a 1972 game against Calgary which to this day is a team record. Bennett died in Florida from COVID-19 complications at the age of 77.
