Regina-Qu’Appelle MP Andrew Scheer calling for withdrawal or defeat of “oil and gas” motion by Regina City Council

The federal Conservatives are now calling on Regina City Council to either withdraw or defeat a motion to ban oil and gas companies from sponsoring or advertising on city property.

In a news release, Regina-Qu’Appelle Member of Parliament Andrew Scheer announced the results of a poll and petition he launched in response to the controversial decision made during a Executive Committee meeting last week.

A total of 330 people signed the petition calling on the city to defeat or withdraw the motion, and a reported 4,500 people opposed the ban in a poll, compared to just 61 in favor.

City council will either withdraw or vote on the motion during their meeting Wednesday afternoon.

Scheer himself called the decision a ‘slap in the face’ to the hundreds of people who have lost their jobs at the Evraz steel mill, adding while some Councilors have reversed their decision, it’s disappointing the motion was proposed in the first place.
