Tuesday saw the provincial government announce 14 deaths from COVID-19 in the province, a new provincial record for daily deaths.
The province’s COVID-19 death toll is now at 268. Here’s where the deaths were recorded in the province with age groups in brackets.
- Regina: three deaths (80-plus category, 70-79 category, 50-59 category)
- Saskatoon: six deaths (50-59 category, two in the 60-69 category, 70-79 category, two in the 80-plus category)
- North Central: two deaths (40-49 category, 80-plus category)
- South East: two deaths (70-79 category, 80-plus category)
- Far North West: one death (80-plus category)
Saskatchewan is reporting 232 new COVID-19 cases and 839 more recoveries on Tuesday; active cases decrease to 2,665.
The new cases are located in the Far North West (23), Far North Central (3), Far North East (4), North West (45), North Central (31), North East (7), Saskatoon (47), Central West (3), Central East (4), Regina (46), South Central (2) and South East (6) zones and 11 new cases have pending residence information.
208 people are in hospital with 175 people receiving inpatient care and 33 people in intensive care. The seven-day average of daily new cases is at 254.
362 doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered on Monday in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of vaccines administered in the province to 34,080 or 104 per cent of the doses received as of Monday. The overage is due to efficiencies in drawing extra doses from vials of vaccine received.
During Tuesday’s COVID-19 update from the government, Premier Scott Moe reiterated that mass access to vaccinations will truly help the province and the rest of the world return to normal.
He said there was progress being made with the province’s vaccination program over the past few weeks, but Saskatchewan continues to be limited by the slow pace of vaccine deliveries to and from the federal government.
“Unfortunately (Tuesday) we are virtually out of vaccines, and with no new shipments coming this week our vaccination program will be stalled for the next number of days,” announced the premier.
This comes after the province extended the current public health order for an additional three weeks to February 19.
