Riders ink former NFLer Acker to one-year deal

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed American defensive back Kenneth Acker.

The soon-to-be 29-year-old joins the Green and White after five years in the National Football League where he played 40 regular season games between the San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, Indianapolis Colts and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Acker was chosen by the 49ers in the sixth round, 180th overall, in the 2014 NFL draft. He played 15 games in 2015 with San Francisco where he collected 63 tackles, three interceptions and defended 21 passes.

He was traded to the Chiefs in 2016 and played in 25 games tallying 39 tackles, four defended passes and one interception.

Acker played with South Methodist University from 2010 to 2013 where in his senior year he was named American Athletic Conference Second Team and to the Thorpe Award Watch List.

He recorded 46 games for the Mustangs making 159 defensive tackles, 36 passes defended, seven interceptions, one sack and one blocked kick he returned for a touchdown.
