SaskPower has approved its final selection of customer projects for its Power Generation Partner Program (PGPP)
The Crown Corporation has accepted 12 projects that will generate and sell power back to SaskPower. Ten of the projects will add 10 MW of solar power to the grid, with two more adding 2.5 MW of carbon-neutral flare gas power.
SaskPower spokesperson Joel Cherry says the program has been very well received.
“This program was designed to provide our customers with an opportunity to generate some revenue, while also helping SaskPower meets its greenhouse gas emission reduction targets,” said Cherry. “Everything that we’ve heard from our customers through the project, and from industry, we’re going to take into account when we move forward and look at other customer generation options going forward.”
Cherry says while not all the approved projects are up and running, they are already seeing clean power put back into the grid.
“Going back to 2018, when the first intake happened, we have a few of those projects online now, I think it’s actually four solar projects are online contributing 1.4 MW of electricity to the grid, but we’re looking forward to more of them coming online in the years to come,” said Cherry.
