Lampman farmer fined 10 thousand dollars for putting animals in distress

A farmer from Lampman has been fined 72 hundred dollars and ordered to pay a surcharge of 28 hundred dollars after pleading guilty to causing animals to be in distress.

Animal Protection Services of Saskatchewan seized 131 distressed cattle and found 16 dead animals on a farm north of Lampman in February, 2019.

Chad Mokelky pleaded guilty last week to the charge of animal distress.

For the first year of the prohibition order, he is prohibited from having in his possession any cattle, livestock or bovine.

For the proceeding four years, he is prohibited from having in his possession any cattle, livestock or bovine unless he is in compliance with conditions.

He must notify Animal Protection Services of his current address and any land locations which is leased by him.

He must permit and facilitate access to his premises, land locations, leased land or other properties where animals may be present during daylight hours by Animal Protection Officers or any peace officer to ensure compliance with the order.

Should he be found in ownership, possession or care of animals contrary to the order, all animals will be forfeited and removed from his ownership, possession or care forthwith and forfeited to Her Majesty in Right of Saskatchewan.

His fines total 10 thousand dollars.
