80 new COVID-19 cases reported in SK; 5 more deaths

Saskatchewan is recording its lowest total of daily new COVID-19 cases since November 4.

On Tuesday, the province reported 80 new cases and 253 recoveries putting the active case count at 2,026.

There were five more deaths putting the provincial total at 346. One of the deaths was a person in their 60’s from the Far Northwest zone. The other four were all over the age of 80 with two of the four in the northcentral zone, and one each in the Saskatoon and southeast zone.

The new cases are located in the Far North West (5), Far North East (7), North West (13), North Central (7), North East (1), Saskatoon (34), Central West (2), Central East (5), Regina (4) and South Central (1) zones. One (1) case has pending residence information.

206 people are in hospital. 180 of them are receiving inpatient care including 48 in Regina with 26 people in intensive care including 10 in Regina.

The seven-day daily average now stands at 203 or 16.5 cases per 100,000 population.

When it comes to vaccines, the province says 1,252 doses were given on Monday bringing the provincial total to 44,521.

The Public Health Agency of Canada announced the approval of regulatory change for the Pfizer vaccine from five doses to six doses per vial on Tuesday. This week’s shipment of Pfizer to the province will continue to be counted as five doses per vial. Beginning next week, all Pfizer doses shipped to provinces and territories will be based on six doses per vial. Due to this change, the Ministry of Health and the Saskatchewan Health Authority are currently examining the potential impact to vaccine distribution plans.
