Several SK communities smash cold-weather records

The polar vortex that has brought us this frigid weather has not surprisingly resulted in record lows across the province.

Environment Canada says 13 communities set a record Thursday for low-temperature with one of those places being Saskatoon where it hit -39.2 breaking the old record set in 1905.

Other places to set new records included Yorkton, Meadow Lake, Assiniboia, Kindersley and Wynyard.  In Meadow Lake, the low dipped to -40.4 celsius

The forecast is calling for warmer weather, but we will have to endure these frigid conditions for a couple of more days with a gradual warming starting on Sunday.

The average high for this time of year is minus 7.
