K9 unit needed to track down those responsible in Friday night theft of auto

Three men and two women ranging in age from 29-53 are facing charges after a stolen car incident on the weekend.

Police say they found a stolen vehicle on the 2200 block of Wallace Street, just a couple of blocks east of the General Hospital, on Friday night.

Officers had to deploy a spike belt with the vehicle eventually stopping at 14th Avenue near Athol Street with multiple people fleeing on foot.  With help from the canine unit, two people were taken into custody with the other three being apprehended a short time later.

All five made a court appearance on the matter Tuesday morning.
