Prince Albert man charged with attempted murder in regards to 2017 trailer fire

A Prince Albert man was arrested in the Yukon after RCMP learned he was involved with a fire in 2017 at a mobile home in Lemsford Ferry Regional Park.

RCMP in Leader responded to the incident on Oct. 1, 2017 at around 9:00 a.m. where the mobile residence was completely destroyed by a fire. Two residents of the home, a man and a woman, were transported to hospital for treatment after sustaining injuries from the fire.

A provincial fire scene examiner was called in to investigate the cause of the fire, however the cause was deemed inconclusive.

It wasn’t until Feb. 2019 when Leader RCMP received additional information that the fire did not happen by accident and that the man of the home was allegedly responsible for the incident. Members of the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit South took over the investigation and gathered enough evidence to lay charges.

On Feb. 16, 2021, police charged 51-year-old Kirk Andrew Rudolph with attempted murder, aggravated assault, arson, obstructing justice and counselling to commit public mischief. RCMP also issued an arrest warrant.

Police learned the next day after determining his charges that Rudolph travelled to Whitehorse, Yukon, prompting police to involve Yukon RCMP for his arrest. He was taken into custody by Yukon RCMP officers without incident on Feb. 18.

Rudolph was transported back to Saskatchewan on Feb. 20. He was in provincial court Monday morning in Regina.
